Mr. Bissell was born on the 10th of June 1966 to John and
Bimla Bissell. His father, the late John Bissell, came to India with a Ford
Foundation grant in 1958. He stayed on and founded Fabindia - an export based
company to promote Indian arts and crafts. Mr. William Bissell joined Fabindia
in 1993, during its transition period from export to domestic retail. He took
over as managing director in 1999. Over the last seven years, the business has
grown twenty five fold - all the while staying true to the company's original
mission of providing a market for goods produced by artisans. At present,
Fabindia sources its products from over 15000 craft persons and artisans across
India, and has over 110 stores in India and abroad. |
